WHO DO I LOVE, WHO DO I LIVE FOR?

THURSDAY, MAY 8
READING: 1 JOHN 2:15-17
This is one of the passages in the Bible that for me is a daily reminder of “who do I love, who do I live for?” And if I am honest with myself, there are days that it seems easier to love the instant and momentary world, more than to do the work of loving Jesus. It is not because I think the world is better, because, in fact, I know God and following Jesus is far better. But it is that I get tired and I want to do the momentary easy thing, not the slow process.
My husband has a great saying for that, “I can't microwave this, I have to slow cook it.” In other words, life is not supposed to be quick. Life is a slow journey towards being more like Jesus. On days where I would like to choose easy, I am reminded that my character and integrity is far more important than the momentary ease that I would like to follow. Continuing to pursue Jesus is far more life-giving than the temporary world.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS
Spend time praying - “Lord, reveal to me ‘the lies that I like’ and how your truth unravels those lies.”
- Are there areas of the world that I love? Am I willing to give those up? Do I need clarity on areas of “is it the world, or is the Father”?
- How can I begin to surrender that part of the world to Jesus?
- Is there a lie that I am comfortable believing in, because it is easier?
